Elections are one of the most important political campaigns of a democratic state, the results of which have a significant impact on further economic and social development. In this process, the role of the media in the coverage of the election campaign is significant. In connection with the forthcoming presidential election of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Media Academy of Tajikistan in cooperation with the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Republic of Tajikistan held a master class on “Coverage of the presidential election process in the media.”
Representatives of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Republic of Tajikistan briefed journalists on the legislation of the Republic of Tajikistan on elections, constitutional norms of elections in the Republic of Tajikistan, the procedure for participation of foreign and local media in the presidential election. In particular, the Secretary of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Republic of Tajikistan Navruz Samadzoda explained the rights and responsibilities of journalists and said that media representatives have the right to cover the election process only after registration and in accordance with the laws of the country.
In modern times, electronic means of communication have a strong position in the dissemination of information, and people have more access to information through social networks. In this regard, Muhammadi Ibodulloev, an expert of the Academy of Mass Media of Tajikistan, spoke on “Using social networks to cover election issues” and said that obtaining information from the Internet requires the user to determine its source. Because it is difficult to get accurate information in cyberspace.
Representatives of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Republic of Tajikistan Nosirjon Salimi and Avaz Nazarov briefed the audience on the order of participation of media representatives in the election process. It was stressed that 15 days before the date of the presidential election, representatives of domestic and foreign media should be registered with the CCER or district commissions.
Then, the numerous questions of the seminar participants were answered in detail.
Ismoilzoda Zinatulloh, Director of the Media Academy of Tajikistan, stressed that the mission of the media is to provide information to the public within the framework of professional and ethical standards of journalism. Proper coverage of the presidential election process, which is a step towards sustainable development of the country, requires high professionalism.
At the end of the event, a collection of “The order of participation of representatives of foreign and local media in the election of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan” was distributed to journalists. The training seminar was attended by 30 representatives of the national media.
